On Friday, April 8, the first all-civilian flight to the International Space Station lifted off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Today marks the day 157 college students begin a 10-week research program known as the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). Fellows will spend the summer immersed in a research lab where they conduct a small research project or work on part of an ongoing research investigation.

Jannifer Lee and Lindy Pence, Florida Graduate Student Association (GSA) reps, had been considering how to prevent burnout and to address poor mental health among grad students. With that goal in mind, they sought to plan an event that would give students a break from their lab and school activities for an afternoon during the workweek.
